Akademos 2007
Victorian Rally Championship Rnd 4
14 Oct 2007
Alexandra area
Mark asked me to write an event report for the Akademos ...But honestly, I either
had my eyes glued shut, or was attempting to read pacenotes. But here it is:
We won our class!
THE END.
Ok Seriously, this time. I cant remember a time doing the Aka when the gods have quite literally shone down on
us. It was a beautiful day, with hardly any wind, and great road conditions. We were a little apprehensive, as
we were doing recce in the snow.
The mayor flagged us off in traditional Aka style, and thanked us for the business we had brought in his little
town. (the hotels being booked out for meal time is a testament to this) So off our little charade went into the
huge, dark and looming hills. It's not every corner I remember, or blow for blow I remember. It's the Michael Guest
Moments, when Mark Says "too late Dave". Or when Mark has to bail out, pulls on the handbrake, and you
do a Marcus Gronholm moment, sitting in your own dust saying "Which way? Which way?" Or then the embarrassing
moments where you try and sink into your own harnessed seat when Marks Fluffed the same spectator point, that we've
been doing for the last umpteen years. But the best moment is when you cross the finish line, and start who-hooing,
get out of the car congratulating each other, and forget that you still have to book in at the finish line in Alexandra.
So in a nut shell, they're the kind of moments I remember after a rally- the fun times. And of course I love doing
a dissection after the event, and breaking it down into "what the hell was everybody else on? Most of the
field went out on the first stage???"
Great event as usual, and the company was even better. We had the Good Craig Jones down from the Gold Coast, and
Aidan's brother Bernie, who is always good value and has some awesome anecdotes. So in my usual style of avoiding
anything technical to write about " hibbia hibbia, that's all folks.
