Bio       Bio

My life has been based around motorsport for as long as I can remember, although until my late teens it was only as a enthusiastic spectator. My first event was a motorkahna contested in a VW Kombi Van, no fairytail finish, but I didn't come last against some far more suitable vehicles. I always knew that I would go racing but I assumed it would be on tarmac, until I competed in my first rally.... I entered my first rally in 1999, as a birthday present for Deb, and haven't looked back since.

The last two years in the VCRS has netted me two Class A runners-up trophies at seasons end, despite sitting out part of 2003 after writing off our early model Charade in a big rollover.

My ambition for 2004 is to win the P1 class in the RaceTech steel VRC.

In the Beginning
The Never Say Dai Rally Team

Late in 1999, Mark was trying to think of something a bit different to give Deb for her birthday. She'd grown very fond of rallying as a sport, so he thought let's find out what it's like on the other side of the spectator bunting. After some research he found that Monash Sporting Car Club was running their Intro Trial (perfect for a couple of beginners) on the correct weekend, however it was only a fortnight away.

Mark bought an '84 Daihatsu Charade from his then employer after quickly working out a deal (as an apprentice, spare cash was definitely not easy to come by), strapped a couple of safety triangles and extinguishers in, and went rallying!!............. Well that was the idea anyway. They had a bit of bother getting through pre event scrutineering during the week. After some fairly major front suspension work and a few electrical modifications they ended up finishing work on the car at 1 am on the morning of the trial, getting it re-scrutineered on the way to the event and arriving in an absolute daze.

Mark and Deb slid off the road on competitive 3 (Road class - Road tyres), and spent an hour sitting in a muddy creek bed. The Sweep car came along and pulled them out (another 10 mins). Mark assumed at this point that they were out of the event, but the driver of the sweep, kindly looked over their documents and pointed out that they still had a few minutes late time left, so they should at least get a couple more stages under our belt. As they were leaving he mentioned that if they drove the wheels off the little thing they might even get to the end. They did just that. Mark and Deb arrived at final control with a slightly damaged car, a very tired crew, and they missed the BBQ too, but they had the time of their life!!

A week or so later they were thrilled to learn that the Monash Sporting Car Club event director, knowing of their trials and tribulations in the event, had awarded Mark and Deb with the Directors (encouragement) award. - the first pair of trophies for the "Glory Shelf".

In the event report the Director refered to the team's "never say die attitude" thus the Never Say Dai Rally Team was born.

Bio       Bio
I first became involved in rallying through one of my wife's co-workers, they invited us to officiate at an event doing road closure, from then on our interest has progressed.
My involvement with the Never Say Dai Rally Team occurred with a student with a passion for rallying asking his trade teacher if he would be available to assist as service crew.... and the rest you could say is history.
My love of motor sport came from my Father who raced motor bikes and cars (formula vee) and then my husband. I got involved in rallying through a co-worker as an official, before being roped in to a rally team with one of my husbands students at a TAFE college (wonder who that was????)
