Get Into Rallying
So you want to get involved in rallying. There are a number of areas to get involved in. You could for instance be a navigator, a driver, or maybe you want to be an official.
In Victoria there is rallying at two levels
|
Club rallies Here we find the up and comers, those who have a lower budget or simply prefer this level. The rallies are usually run at night using maps to navigate the rally route. A lot of younger competitors start their rally careers at this level. Cody Crocker & Simon Evans are just a couple of big names to graduate from Victorian club level rallying in recent years. |
Victorian Rally Championship This is where the quickest and most competitive crews with the latest technology strut their stuff for the honour of being the fastest crew in the state. These are often daylight rallies and run on specially closed roads. |
To start at club level, you don't need a top of the range Evo 5 or WRX. Most people start out in an old Datto 1600 or indeed a little Charade. The financial outlay to rally at club level is minimal compared to other forms of motor sports, and very often the cost is split between driver and navigator.
